LIGHTING PLAN
The 6” circles on the grid are where I would suggest adding recessed lighting. I think you can move the bars that are lining the current 2’x4’ lights so they line up with the rest of the grid (so it would look like I have to the left). If you use 60-75 Watt equivalent LEDs then I think 12 lights would be sufficient for the space. You can also add one or two more by the stairs if you think you need more light in that area. I didn’t see any existing lights there and am not too sure, so I thought I would run that one by you.

Concept 1
Concept 2
Console for behind sofa which would double as storage for games.
Floor Plan
The two concepts are the same color themes, but I wanted to give you different options for the rugs and curtains as they can set different vibes in the room.
The first board has a neutral curtain with kind of a vertical pattern to give the room height. The neutral curtains will brighten the room a bit but also contrast against the teal walls. I went with coordinating rugs in similar colors. The seating area rug has a smaller scale pattern that doesn’t stand out too much. While the rug in the game area has a bolder pattern and pops a bit more.
The second board I chose velvet curtains in a deep teal to blend in with the walls but also give the room more of a luxe feel. We could also do a different texture in a deep teal to save a bit of money as the velvet curtains are more pricey. I went with a bold rug to make a statement in the living area and a more subdued blue and gray rug for under the game table (this would also be round like the first board).
On both boards, I placed the string art on the wall between the sliders. I thought we could do a small art gallery wall between the window and side door behind the sofa (options to come). I’m thinking a grouping of art pieces on the mantel with some greenery and candle holders. The game table chairs are a gold velvet material with black metal legs (and have an 18.5” seat height). I chose a storage console for behind the sofa that could double as a place to store games and other items. The tv stand is a white and walnut combo that I thought tied in the coffee table that you chose nicely to the space! The pillows are a sampling of colors. I would add a couple more to the ends of the sofa with some texture/pattern.
Initial Ideas
The picture to the left is my initial color palette thoughts. I took some of the colors you had in some of your initial ideas and here’s how I’m thinking of incorporating them together:
Wall Color Idea 1:
My idea is to paint the walls a muted bluish-green (the large paint swatch in the left image is Benjamin Moore Newbury Green). It looks great with white trim and varying wood tones. The navy sofa would not completely blend into the wall color, as the sofa would be a bit darker and the wall color is one hue over on the color wheel. The accents colors (yellows, golds, rust/terracotta) would add small pops of contrast through pillows and artwork.
Wall Color Idea 2:
We’d keep the same accent colors but the walls would be a light and bright white or gray. See photo below for inspiration.
Wall Color Idea 3:
A medium gray tone, possibly that leaned a bit blue. See picture below for inspiration.
I’d also like to add a couple of pieces of furniture in a wood finish to bring a bit of warmth to the room and carry a bit of farmhouse vibe to the basement. I’m thinking the overall vibe will be modern with pops of glam, a bit of boho texture and farmhouse.
Color Idea 2: Wall Color & Color Palette Inspiration
Color Idea 3: Warm Gray Wall Color
Color Idea 3: Bluish Gray Wall Color
Color Idea 1: The wall color wouldn’t be this close to the sofa color. I just liked the vibe and pops of color in this room.
Note: Ignore the rugs in these photos. I know you don’t want a light rug. The above photos were just to illustrate different wall colors and the pops of color in the photos that I noted :)
The Moment You’ve Been Waiting For….The Ceiling Option!
I really like these tiles as an option. Here’s why:
1) They are white, which I think will help make the ceiling feel higher.
2) I think they can go with really any style. They are modern enough yet still have a bit of traditional detail with the coffered effect. I also like that they aren’t the main focus of the room. I’m worried if we do something too fancy on the ceiling, it will draw too much attention to the low ceiling height.
3) They won’t break the bank! They’re pretty inexpensive and they seem fairly easy to install. They even have grid covers in case your grid has yellowed or doesn’t exactly match the white of the tiles.
Some Other Miscellaneous Ideas
I’m thinking about doing a wall mounted closed storage piece to the left of the fireplace (on the 6’1” wall) with possible floating shelves above or art or a mirror. This could be an additional space to store board games. The one pictured below is from IKEA but I’m going to try to find something in a warmer wood.
I saw your note about the fireplace shelf. I was thinking of a wooden floating shelf above the fireplace. Do you want a decorative screen or new tools for the fireplace?
Floor to ceiling curtains (probably blackout) will also make the ceiling seem higher. I was thinking the curtains over the sliding doors could stack on the sides of the door that doesn’t have handles for when you want them open to see the view.
For one or both of the rugs: How do you feel about vintage style rugs? Initially, I’m thinking that or a geometric or abstract in a warm color scheme.
Layout: Currently I think the initial layout you had in mind works best. There’s plenty of room to move about the space and access the different parts of the room, and that’s the best spot for the tv.
